SEVEN YEARS BACK. 10 YEARS FORWARD..

11 Feb 26 · People, Thought Leadership

By Frank Fisseler, Sequana Group CEO

Seven years ago, Sequana was just two people. Mike Walsh and I.

No balance sheet.

No pipeline certainty.

No safety net.

Just conviction.

A belief that water and climate infrastructure deserved clearer thinking.

Less noise.

More accountability.

Better value.

We started with nothing but experience, relationships and a willingness to do things differently.

Today, we are 230 people strong.

Operating across advisory, engineering, environment and delivery.

Expanding internationally.

With many further partnerships in the pipeline.

But scale is not the real story.

People are.

What matters most.

The single most important thing for me has never been revenue and profitability.

It is having the best people in the industry.

Not just technically strong but commercially sharp. Independent. Courageous. Passionate. Able to sit at a board table and add real value.

And here is something I am deeply proud of:

In seven years of growth, including acquisitions and rapid expansion, we have not lost a single senior leader.

That does not happen by accident.

It happens because we create:

  • Loyalty
  • Trust
  • Accountability
  • And a genuine sense of purpose

We build a company of owners in mindset, in responsibility and increasingly in equity.

The power of partnership

Our partnership with Pemba Capital Partners has been transformational.

Pemba is our Sherpa.

They do not carry us up the mountain.

But they help us choose the right route.

They challenge us.

They bring discipline.

They bring perspective.

We have a rock-solid relationship built on alignment and transparency.

Ambition without discipline is dangerous.

Discipline without ambition is stagnation.

Together, we balance both.

What defines the Sequana Group

Clarity over complexity.

Cutting through noise.

Doing things differently when the status quo is not good enough.

Many of our people have sat in our clients’ roles before.

We understand political pressure and community expectations.

Budget scrutiny.

Delivery risk.

Reputation risk.

That changes how you advise.

We do not sell hours.

We do not compete as a commodity.

We compete on judgment.

We offer real value for money because we understand what failure costs.

The next 10 years

The industry is entering a period of significant structural change.

Governments are capital-constrained.

Climate volatility is increasing.

Infrastructure financing models must evolve.

Risk allocation must become smarter.

Incremental change will not be enough.

Leading the change

Too much capital is still deployed too late in the cycle.
Too much risk is transferred without accountability.
And too many decisions are made without integrated commercial, technical and governance thinking.
That is where the next decade will be won or lost.

Sequana’s international expansion with our UK office is well underway.

New major strategic partnerships are forming.

Innovation in commercial and funding models is accelerating.

By 2035, Sequana will help redefine how water and climate infrastructure is funded, governed and delivered.
Not as a consultant on the sidelines.
But as a strategic partner shaping decisions before capital is committed.

We will become the most trusted independent authority and true partner in water, environment and climate infrastructure.

Involved before projects are defined.

Respected for independence.

Known for cutting through.

Seven years ago, two people started something with no guarantees.

Today, 230 exceptional people are building something that matters.

The next decade will define our industry.

We do not intend to follow that change.

We intend to lead it. With clarity, discipline and heart.
