17 Jun 25 · Community & Culture

This year, NAIDOC Week is celebrating 50 years of ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. The theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, highlights achievements of the past and the bright future ahead. At Sequana, we continue to listen and learn from Traditional Custodians groups to respect their ancestral connection to Country and support knowledge and understanding in catchment management and beyond.

ilestone, Sequana, in collaboration with the River Basin Management Society (RBMS), is hosting a special screening of the powerful documentary More than a Fish Kill, followed by an insightful panel discussion The screening will be followed by an insightful panel discussion featuring Artistic Director, Vic McEwan, Department of Regional NSW Fisheries, Program Manager, Matthew McLellan and Barkindji and Malyangapa man, David Doyle.

More than a Fish Kill explores how artists, fisheries managers and First Nations custodians came together in the aftermath of devastating fish kills along the Barka (Darling River) in far western New South Wales.

These unlikely collaborators undertook a remarkable journey, turning these devastating ecological disasters into catalysts for cultural healing and revival.

More than a Fish Kill shares how art, science and ancient knowledge were interwoven in the spirit of care, revealing new possibilities for honouring our places and communities in this time of environmental change.
